War and Peace is a historical novel written by Tolstoy and was published in 1865 in Russia. The story begins by introducing the characters of the book at the party; they include Andrey Bolkonsky, Pierre Bezukhov, Kuragin, and Rostov’s family. Most parts of the new focus on the interaction and relationship of Andrey, Pierre, and Rostov. The story revolves around War and peace among the characters. Pierre married Helena, she was unfaithful to him, and she decided to move on with another man. Pierre was overwhelmed by marriage, and he leaves Helena and joins freemasons, which influences his personal and business fortune to no small extent. Nikolay witness peace between Tsar Alexander I and Napoleon. In 1812, Napoleon invaded Russia and forced Alexander to declare War (Tolstoy). The French imprisoned Pierre, he befriended a wise peasant Platon Karatev, and he was later freed from French and promptly fell ill. After recovering, Pierre married Natasha, and they were blessed with four children. In the end, Nikolay weds Mary, and the two enjoyed their marriage life. The first article that discusses the novel of War and Peace is the article by Mark Rawlinson; does Tolstoy war and peace make modern war literature redundant? The second article is by Fraser Bell, the truth, and lies in Leo Tolstoy’s War and peace. The last section is by Amber Aulen about War and Peace across disciplines in the international Tolstoy conference.

The first article that was written by Mark Rawlinson portrays if the novel of War and Peace makes modern war literature redundant. The author claim that the twentieth-century War was writing to directly reflect what was written in the historical story of War and peace. Recent books try to draw the attention of what was happening in the past years during War. They brought many ideas from the Tolstoy novel. The author added that the novel design of War and Peace contains the War that happens as early as 1853 as the writer draw a story from his experience. Has the writer indicates in his work that he wanted to know the actual reality of killing in the War, and it occur in which was and the people acting in the War. He quotes the book where the writer says that what way and under the influence of what feeling for one solder to kills another one rather than to know how the armies were arranged at the Austerlitz and Borodino.

Mark added that the contemporary English literature novels about War borrow the idea from the books of the nineteenth century. He said that nobody has ever written the whole truth about War and battle except the novel writer Tolstoy. He considers the story that is written in the novel, and he found out that the author says all the truth about War on how the solder behaves and what people do during the War (Rawlinson, 229). In the War and Peace, Tolstoy promotes imaginative writers’ ability to represent a general field of their supposed agency. Tolstoy also insists on the literary sources of his knowledge of War declaring that in 1901 he had learned War from Stendhal’s description. Some of how War and peace are written is not the same as how the twentieth-century novels are written. The author of the article proclaims that Tolstoy spends five years writing the story, and he captured everything that is entailed in the War compare to modern writers who take fewer years to write the novel. They end up not capturing everything historical. The novel of Tolstoy has assisted modern war literature to be lite.

The second article is by Fraser Bell, which talks about the truth and lies in Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace. The author starts by narrating how the writer of the novel War and Peace visited Les Invalides to see Napoleon tomb in the year 1857. A few years later he sat down and wrote the novel his main aim was not only to write a story about the Rostov’s or Bolkonskis for amusement, but he wanted to attack the officials and self-serving mythical version of men and their works (Bell, 222). He forever seeks the inner truth, which he believes that the truth is with the officials, and they obscured the bulletins. He added that anyone who has read the novel of War and Peace would remember the famous scenes, which were reproduced in the Hollywood movie version and the Russian film and more recent BBC television series. Tolstoy places Napoleon on the stage of France and Russia and goes to War, but soon it becomes open that the French emperor.

Seven years later, the French army crosses the Vistula and invades Russia, Tolstoy tears off the mountebank’s mask and reveling the profound truth.  According to Tolstoy, the French defeat has a great deal to do with one eye. The Russian commander does not follow any standard rule of warfare. The truth is that all the evidence suggested that Kutuzov was entirely had inadequate imagination and intuition, which he never forgot the whipping his army in what they had received at the Austerlitz (Bell, 223). The imaginative one is the man that made split decisions, the one who always spoke about his lucky star and his vision of subjugated Moscow and who fantasized about united Europe. Bell said that Tolstoy’s belief in non- violence and civil disobedience in his hate rate of War and his faith in all the men could become more than unity. His advocacy and campaign of Christianity without the miracle, he never has favorite tsars or anyone else who had a stake in order. The story in the War and Peace might be seen as the revelation of Tolstoy’s beliefs because of what he narrated; it clearly shows that he is the man that trusts in the truth.

Amber Aulen wrote the last article, and it discusses the War and Peace across the disciplines done in the international Tolstoy conference in the year 2010. A group of scholars from various disciplines came together for a conference to discuss the novel of War and Peace that was unique and showcase the event that happens in the past. The conference took the whole day, and they give the compliment and challenge to the idea about the novel and the concepts of War that were examined. The author Tolstoy’s understanding of truth and vision of transformative power that can motivate a subject toward moral action and concept that exist outside the Whites dialectical model of history. The correspondence between Tolstoy’s portrayal of Moscow during the events of 1812 and the eyewitness account of the War.

Other scholars illuminated the texting by reexamining familiar topics from a new angle on the tension between free will and determinism in the Tolstoy’s work as viewed from the perspective of international reflection theory (Aulen, 7). Different scholars found out that both the author of the novel War and Peace and the international relations theorists are concerned with identifying the force that moves the nation. Furthermore, several of the scholars explicitly examined Tolstoy’s work through a military lens. They focus on the characters of the novel War and Peace, and they found out that the author was keen on his description of the War and Peace across the globe. War was the keynote to describe in the discussion of various scholars who were at the conference, and they found out that Tolstoy explains everything in broadways. He understands in and out of Russian history (Aulen, 10). Other scholars criticize his work, saying that the author did not consider some other thing when writing the story of War and Peace. Most of the scholars in the conference congratulate the author by saying that he builds a way for the modern English literature writers.
