The role of objectivity, which is the perception being outlined, has impartiality, and holds the basis of facts and evidence tabled, is defined as the possessor of national identity or patriotism. Objectivity in history deemed impossible by historians as depicted in the American Revolution tales that adopted the excellent stories and discarded the ‘bad’ ones. In my perspective, objectivity is a means of satisfying the individuals’ quest for validation of the tales of history through alignment with relevant evidence, which would be in photography a, writing, and other modern methods utilized.

The real role of history, as depicted in the excerpts, clearly outlines that the creation of national identity remains to the most significant influencer. This scenario is attributed to the fact that objectivity in history is shunned upon as described by Charles Thomson, secretary of the Continental Congress. Mr. Thomas, who decided to keep the truth not wanting to enlighten future generations, found out that the Patriots and heroes were not as they were depicted to be. Therefore, the real mantle of history lies in shaping the country’s past and aligns it with the heroes coined by the folklore transmitted down by word of mouth.

Various individuals who distort and align the history following their perceptions coin the national identity. For instance, concerning the American Revolution, the oral tradition created leeway for personal bias and skewed sampling. The impact of this influence is high, making the people involved the real determinants of identity. Although little control occurs on the part of writers, painters, and oral narrators, they contain a bit of influence that, in many cases, serves as leeway for distorted forms of history. A classic example is the John Trumbull painting, where the date was mistakenly applied, giving a skewed and distorted history that provides doubts with even on the art itself.

History, as we tell it today, leaves out many individuals who partook in shaping the country’s past. The magnitude of omission is not yet quantified. Still, it is viewed to be substantial in that recently, unfounded tales such as Patrick henry’s liberty or death speech appeared magically after 61 years showing even more significant omissions.
