What is the value (in dollars) of a finance degree?
According to Payscale, the average salary of a B.S. in finance takes in $60,000 a year. This value only represents the median pay, which means there is a possibility of earning more than the quoted figure or earning less than it. The variable to determine the compensation is the various positions that a finance degree holder can occupy in an organization. A finance degree at first does not seem to be a gateway to stellar pay, but with advancements, in one’s career, a person can earn more than $100k annually. Graduates with a B.S. in Financial Management degree are expected to add value to their organization by analyzing financial institutions’ financial health like banks and other business sectors, helping them improve economic performance and increase profitability. Professionals with a financial management degree focus in areas like financial analysis and forecasting, portfolio management, cash management, international finance, and risk management. The common positions that a finance degree holder can occupy in an organization include finance manager, economist, investment banker, financial risk manager, personal finance advisor, financial analyst, budget analysts, etc. The aforementioned financial management positions have a median salary of more than $100k. However, not every degree holder will occupy lucrative positions. Others will hold junior positions; thus, their salaries will be lower. Therefore, the best strategy to gauge the value of a finance degree is to look at what the market is willing to pay. However, the degree holder can soar up the ranks and get better pay, determined by other educational accolades and the company’s contribution. The entry-level salary of a finance degree gives a clearer picture of the degree’s market value, which is approximately $55700 to $60k annually.
- State what grade you estimate for your performance in this class. Show evidence supporting this estimate and why you deserve this grade.
The class performance estimates will be determined from the various performances in the groups and personal class milestones project. We worked on the group class project, including the 11 strategy papers, financial health analysis, NPV, equity residual methods, Bidding for Hertz, and the Pacific Groove papers. We met 5 hours a week to work on the various class tasks. We were thorough with our strategy papers, where we analyzed the subject requirement and proposed the best strategy from what we had learned in class. The expected grade will be based on our performance at the group projects and individual assignments. (indicate what you got from each of the group projects, individual projects, what you expected to get in the exam. When computing the final grade, remember to factor in the weights of each of the class assignments)
