What were some of the hardships and obstacles of farming and ranching on the eastern plains of Colorado?
The people who settled in Colorado 1870 did not find it easy in conducting their agricultural activities. Some of the challenges they face were the backwater in the land that made it hard to exploit the land. The mode of transport was a problem to the but later on the mining which was ongoing encouraged development of railroad that pushed for commercial farming. Another hardship was poor technology to fetch water for irrigation and poor cooperation to sell the products.
Hardship on the western slope of Colorado
The biggest challenge here was the extreme weather conditions sometimes too cold other time droughts again, steepness of the land that encourages a lot of soil erosion and livestock finding it difficult to walk on the adulated areas. Another hardship was the unstable climate that experienced drought and sometimes the over melting of the ice affecting the irrigation process for crops.
How settlers adapted to the conditions they found at Colorado plains
Through tenure, the new settlers impacted the environment bearing in the mind that there will be more generation to come they engaged in land shaping, reclamation, creating territories and build their future.
They did not find the pastoral garden of the world as the Gilpin claimed it was just a plain barren land.
