Why Move Information to the Cloud?

Cybersecurity is getting more challenging each day due to the evolving nature of threats that are becoming complex. Therefore, organizations are increasingly shifting their operations to the cloud to obtain improved security levels. Although the cloud does not guarantee 100% security due to various challenges; however, a properly secured cloud solution can provide enhanced levels of protection that could not be achieved through on-premise security measures. There are significant reasons why organizations that seek to improve their security posture should consider moving to the cloud.

The cloud minimizes the risk of authorization and authentication threats. The cloud has a linked global coverage, which ensures that all employees in an organization or a members of a team access it through a single logic credential (Sether, 2016). This helps in streamlining the identity and access credentials management. Therefore, employees can access anything they need at any time across the cloud applications. The cloud will have an audit trail that helps in tracking any accidental and intentional data breaches. Additionally, IT can easily limit access to material that are considered at risk without affecting other operations.

Additionally, it is easy to scale-up when using the cloud because of the unlimited storage and computing power (Clark, 2009). Therefore, security intelligence can use enhanced performance computing to use emerging cybersecurity technologies to promote data security. Additionally the cloud has security tools, such as security applications and monitoring applications, which can be used to establish defense across an organization. Although on-premise security approaches are effective in promoting data security, organizations have to use multiple measures to scale up and monitor all operations. Therefore, by moving data to the cloud, organizations can achieve multiple security benefits. However, it is vital to consider the cons of shifting to cloud computing before considering to use cloud solutions.
