Why Tablet Computers Should Become the Primary Way for Students’ Class Learning
In the modern world, tablet computers have become common and their use has been extended to young people especially those in colleges. In most cases, many young people have been using tablet computers for purposes of social media interactions. However, if the benefits of using tablet computers are to go by, then suggesting the use of tablet computers in students’ classroom learning would be a prudent option. Some the reasons why tablet computers should become the primary way for student’s learning include benefits such as faster learning, improvement of computer skills, enhancing independent thinking, preparation of students to a world immersed in technology, reduction of work from teachers, maintaining real-world opportunities by students and developing knowledge on current technology.
Tablet computers should become a primary way of students’ class learning as they contribute to faster learning (Lewis and Adam 7). In most cases in a class, a teacher has to read out all the instructions on an assignment to all students. In this case, the teacher spends a lot of time verbally directing the students on what to do. Embracing the use of tablet computers ensures that students get instructions quickly and can understand them faster. Mostly, technology-based instructions reduce the time for both learners and teachers. Therefore, for faster learning and understanding by students, a tablet computer would enhance such.
Additionally, students need to improve their computer skills. Ideally, the current world requires everyone to use a computer in the workplace. Students are usually in colleges for purposes of being prepared for life outside the colleges (Lewis and Adam 10). This life outside the college requires everyone to possess computer skills to enable him/her to perform different assigned tasks in the workplace. Using tablet computers by students would enable them to acquire computer skills due to the continuous use of computers. Also, a teacher would problem guide the students on how to use the computers to perfection. Developing computer skills can also help the students acquire some part-time jobs that require such skills while still at school. Therefore, introducing a tablet computer in school is paramount as it helps students improve on computer skills.
Moreover, the use of tablet computers by students in class enhances independent thinking. Introducing tablet computers to students whereby each student will possess a tablet computer means that there is no group thinking. Group thinking leaves some students with no clue what they are being taught as the majority do not participate in group classwork. Tablet computers will ensure that each student conducts his/her own research and submits it to the teacher for review. In this case, every student will be able to think independently as he/she conducts his/her own research. Also, some students are shy and in most cases majority are introverts. This means that the extroverts in the class contribute immensely to any questions that a teacher asks leaving behind the introverts. Since the introverts fear to talk in the class, there is a high probability that the majority do not pay attention to what is being taught. Having tablet computers in the class would ensure every student participates in-class learning and this will enhance independent learning.
In today’s world, technology is what is defining the modern society. This means that students need to prepared for a world that is immersed in technology. To enhance this, tablet computers would be appropriate. Basically, when students go to colleges, their first thing that comes to their minds is how the modern world operates. Since technology is being used in every sector of an economy, learners should know about technology and this knowledge can only be acquired through the use of tablet computers (Lewis and Adam 4). Tablet computers would expose the students to numerous technological advancements and this would help them understand how the technology works and the importance of technology in the modern world. Therefore, tablet computers should be introduced in classes for students to use in learning as they help them understand the technological world.
In addition, tablet computers help reduce the work that teachers perform (Soykan and Fatih 1140). For example, teachers are required to print a lot of handouts and assignments for students. In this case, it takes a lot of effort to print such handouts and assignments, especially where the number of students is very high. Using tablet computers by students means that the teacher will only prepare study notes and assignments and send them directly to students via their tablet computers. This will not only reduce the work of the teacher but also the time is taken to prepare all the assignments and study notes for students. The reduction in time will help students to get some free time to relax since the teacher would be able to cover the syllabus in a short period of time. As everyone knows, a student who has taken time to relax the mind in most cases presents goods exam test results since he/she is able to fathom quickly. Hence, it is good is to introduce tablet computers to students as they help reduce the work on teachers.
Furthermore, tablet computers help students maintain real-world opportunities. Across the globe, opportunities are many for students (Nikolopoulou and Kleopatra 260). For example, a student may apply for a scholarship while still at college. This scholarship would enable the student to advance in his/her career after completion of students or even before completion. Allowing students to access the world wide web would be a nice idea as it would present them with plenty of opportunities. Also, jobs across the globe are advertised on the internet and since a student is able to access the internet through the tablet computer, he/she is able to learn more about such jobs and prepare for the job market. Therefore, schools should introduce the use of tablet computers for students’ class learning.
Moreover, tablet computers are efficient and effective to use by students. Tablet computers are portable and students can go with them to their residential places (Soykan and Fatih 1143). Unlike the other computers which are difficult to carry with, tablet computers help students move to any place they would wish with them. The fact that students can move with tablet computers everywhere means that they have got all the learning materials everywhere they are in. This helps students to be able to research widely and learn extensively on their classwork. Tablet computers are efficient in that students are able to learn a lot and they are effective in that they enable the students to be successful in their studies.
Finally, tablet computers enable students to develop knowledge of how the current technology works (Zheng et al., 20). These days, due to technological advancements, some technologies are being developed as others are becoming redundant. Where students are able to access anything to do with technology in an appropriate manner, they are able to understand how the technology works and the different changes in technology. This would help them understand very well the technological world that we are living and appreciate it. Understanding how technology works may bring about innovation from the students since young minds are able to come up with new technological ideas easily. Therefore, having tablet computers as the students’ way of primary learning is important as it helps the students develop knowledge on how the current technology works.
In conclusion, as far as tablet computers are concerned, there is no doubt of introducing them to students’ class learning. Tablet computers are very important to students as they help in faster learning, improvement of computer skills, enhancing independent thinking, preparation of students to a world immersed in technology, reduction of work from teachers, maintaining real-world opportunities by students and developing knowledge on current technology.
