Wildlife out of their natural habitat

Monkeys are mischievous, magnificent, and mysterious animals. The natural habitat for monkeys is in the forest. Most of them are arboreal while others like baboons, macaques, and mangabeys are terrestrial. Over the years, more and more monkeys have been removed from their natural habitats and brought to zoos all over America. Monkeys that are in zoos in America have been forced to change their behaviour. They behave completely different from monkeys that are in their natural habitat. Whether people have harmed or helped monkeys by removing them from their natural habitat is a controversial issue. Some may argue that monkeys have been harmed because they have been removed out of their natural environment while others have been saved from extinction.

Most of the monkeys that live around my area are normally located in zoos. It is not their natural environment as they usually live in forests. Since they have been removed from their natural environment it is eminent that they will behave differently from those that live in their natural habitat. Monkeys that live in zoos are more sedentary than their counterparts in the wild (Hewson & Claire 10). They are more prone to obesity and illnesses. Monkeys that are in their natural habitat are usually adopted to the physical characteristics of the environment. Hewson & Claire (10) further state that the one located in zoos don’t face rough physical environment and can be soft. The place where an animal lives are important as it shapes how the animal lives.

Monkeys located in zoos normally don’t have predators. They are protected and kept in enclosed areas where you find an animal of the same species mostly. Therefore, finding a predator in this place will be hard. In their natural habitat, the monkeys will be hunted by big cats and this makes them more careful at what they do (Hewson & Claire 11). Some species of birds of prey, eagles are also predators, and snakes are also predators. Monkeys in zoos are also fed by humans while those located in the wild fend for themselves (Hewson & Claire 11). It further emphasizes how monkeys that are in the wild have a lot of differences compared to the ones living among humans.

Monkeys that live around humans are not treated badly as many may assume and this is because there are laws that regulate how they are treated. Monkeys living in the wild may receive worse treatments like being killed (Li et al. 316). Generally, the only thing that humans do that is bad is removing the animals from their natural environment and bringing them into a new environment that they should not be in. After that, the monkey receives proper care.

It is not bad to remove monkeys out of their natural habitat. But when doing this it should be done with the correct reasons and proper care. They should also be treated well in their new home.
