Women Health and Gender Relations

A nursing career is considered to be the most morally sound profession that requires high qualities of knowledge, practical experience, and trust (Vallano 12). These qualities are offered at the best and most reputable institutions, which I believe the University of Pennsylvania School of nursing is one of them. Penn Nursing is known to have superlative state of the art simulation laboratories, excellent teaching hospitals, and a team of healthcare professionals passionate about their work. They also take up the responsibility of organizing clinical placements for their students, which reduces worry to the students and can concentrate better on their studies. Their nursing research level is incomparable to other institutions; the students acquire essential skills during research collaborations taking advantage of the accessibility of professional connections with their mentors. The institution also offers a diverse range of flexible syllabus perfect for all diverse students nationally and even globally e.g., abroad studies, dual-degree syllabuses, etc. which ensures everyone can access the right curriculum for their classes. Penn nursing graduates are experts and influential leaders in all healthcare sectors from operations, research, and practice, which gives a significant reputation about the school.

I want to choose nursing as a career because I have a deep passion for serving people and the numerous experiences I have had with different people from different backgrounds. The first time was when I was handling my four years old cousin with Down syndrome. Being from Ethiopia (born and raised) where there is a lack of awareness and the stigma related to the condition, I helped create a comfortable and happy place into her life, which gave me immense satisfaction since it impacted hope into their lives. Eight years later, my cousin’s name and the story turned out to become a charity organization, and I was not tiring to take credit since I took care of her as a family. Nursing is a noble career that helps mitigate the patient’s ailment and suffering by creating a positive and friendly environment. The second significant encounter was when my late aunt was hospitalized with chronic pneumonia. Being an empathetic, strong valued personality with a desire to impact those in need positively, I helped her through her worst days, e.g., changing her diaper, babysitting her two children, etc. This attitude of supporting those in need, giving them joy and peace without expecting anything in return, makes me believe that nursing is the most rewarding career. When I came to the United States in 2013 for my undergraduate studies, I involved myself in numerous aid and volunteer activities e.g., working as a peer tutor for three years while helping first-year students with their coursework. Also volunteering in a camp spearhead fall season weekend program where I helped special needs children and adults go to the zoo and enjoy their day. I later worked as a front desk receptionist at wellspring family medicine in summer 2017, where my role was to manage patient records and files during which I interacted with the nurses and admired their work. During my full-time student, all these activities made me great in multitasking, humble, patient, with great work ethics. I was always inspired by how nurses intervene for their patients, understanding their desires, and making them contended while managing their health. Nursing is an exciting and fast-paced profession (unlike the same routine boring jobs) where one gains a lot of experience, satisfaction, and exposure. It involves attending to diverse patients, illnesses, emergencies, immediate decision-making processes, etc. I experienced at the wellspring family medicine.
