Workplace Perceptions
Introduction
In every organization, human resources is an important resource that is treated with more care. Therefore, the psychologist is concerned with the attitude of the employees and their perception towards other employees. As a result, psychologists may often explore the similarities and differences between people when working on group projects. Therefore, the research involves fifteen employees who respond to a given questioner to measure their attitude towards different topics. The researcher also requests the fifteen employees to review their attitudes to determine the best applicant to work best with them when they are employed in the organization. The employees are to rate the job applicants and give them scores according to individual attitude. Therefore, the I/O psychologist evaluates the response of the employees and rates whether there is any similarity between the applicant attitude and that of the employees. Therefore, the research involves evaluating which group of people will work better when they work for a project together. Are they those who have similar or those who have different perceptions. Therefore, the following will be the analysis of the research results.
Hypotheses
For this research, the hypothesis used is the following, which represents the null and alternative hypotheses. Therefore the hypotheses will either be accepted or rejected.
Null hypotheses (HO1): There is no significant relationship between the proportion of similarity of attitudes and the attitudes of employees.
Alternative hypotheses (HA1): There exists a significant relationship between the proportion of similarity of attitudes and the attitudes of employees.
Explanation about hypotheses
If the hypotheses are accepted, it will mean that there is a relationship between a similar attitude and the relationship of the employees at the working place. Therefore, it means that, therefore, employees should have a similar attitude for the creation of teamwork within the organization. It will help the I/O psychologist conclude that the employees should always consider the similarity between employees so that they can create a conducive environment for the organization’s employees. When the hypotheses are rejected, there is no relationship between a similar attitude and the employees’ relationship at the workplace. Therefore, it means that people can work in the same organization and have good teamwork even if they don’t have a similar attitude and perceptions.
This test adopts a p-value of 0.05. A sample of 15 employees was used and thus yielding 13 degrees of freedom. The critical value for the test is 0.514. The critical value corresponds to the degrees of freedom and is dependent on the level of significance. If the result from the calculation is equal or larger than the critical value, then there is a significant statistical relationship between the variables. Therefore, the calculated value must be less than the critical value for the null hypothesis to be accepted. The calculations for the test are as shown in the table below.

SUM | 13.1104589 | ||||
proxy | 0.93646135 |
From the calculation, the calculated value of proxy is 0.9365, which is significantly higher than the critical value of 0.514. Therefore, there is a significant correlation between the two variables: a similar attitude and the applicant’s perception. Additionally, it can be concluded that the proportion of significance is of significant effect on employees’ working relationships. Therefore, a similar attitude of the employees has a significant relationship with the perception of the applicants.
Linear Graph
The graph below shows a relationship between the proportions of a similar attitude and the applicant’s perception since the scatter dots have a particular tread and pattern. The pattern moves from the left to the right showing that there is a positive relationship between the two variables. That is, if one of the variable changes, also the other variable will change. If one of the variables increases, also the other one will increase, and if it decreases also, the other variable will decrease. From the move of the pattern of the graph, then it can be concluded that the relationship between a similar attitude and the perception of the applicant is linear, as shown in the following graph. The linear line moves from left to right, and no change shows that the graph will change to positive or negative or either having a neutral point. Hence having a linear relationship.
Therefore, from the graph, the hypotheses that there exists a significant relationship between the proportion of similarity of attitudes and the attitudes of employees are supported. Since the graph shows a linear relationship between the two variables, hence it means that workers who have a similar attitude will work well in a work project than those who are different. Therefore, for an organization to enhance teamwork so easily and create a good working environment, consider employing people who have a similar attitude towards the given topics. Human resource is an important resource in the organization; thus should be considered with care.
In conclusion, employees’ attitudes and their co-workers can be predicted using the attitude of the other person. From the results, the employees could allocate the highest scores to the applicants whom they have a similar attitude to those who have a different attitude. It can be concluded that the employees are always willing to work more effectively if their co-workers have the same attitude as they have. The advantage of having such a group is that these people will be free to interact and easy to understand each other, therefore having a conducive environment to operate. The team will be planning and feeling that they belong to the organization, hence working for the organization’s benefit. It will help the organization achieve its goals and objectives as first as possible since the employees have a strong team group and a sense of belonging.
The difference and similarity between the linear regression analysis and the correlation
There is a similarity between the linear regression analysis and the correlation because both are based on the association hypothesis. One of the Person’s Correlations between the two variables is having a linear relationship. For instance, from the research, the linear relationship between the two variables moves from the lower left to the upper right. Hence it can be concluded as the positive correlation between the two variables (Montgomery, Peck, & Vining, 2013). It shows that when the two variables have a positive correlation is that when one variable increases also, the other variable will increase. But when the linear regression line moves from the upper left to the lower right, it shows that a negative correlation between variables. That is when one variable is increasing. The other variable is reducing. Therefore, there is a positive correlation between the perception of the applicants and a similar attitude. The two variables have a strong correlation relationship since they have an R-value of 0.9365. However, there is still the difference between the correlation and the linear regression. The correlation analysis samples both measurement variables from the given population while the linear regression one should choose the value of the independent variable.
The advantages of regression to I-O Psychologists and their work
Industrial-organizational psychology involves the application of the psychological concepts and theories at the workplace. It helps in ensuring that organizations recruit people who are trained and will be effective in the organization. The I/O participates in the placement, selection, and training of the employees to ensure smooth and effective running in the organization (Seber, & Lee, 2012). They also ensure that the employees are safe in the organization, and the potential of the employees is fully exploited in the organization. They also work as consultants in organizations. Therefore, they carry out much research using different tools and methods to come up with tangible conclusions on their study. One of the methods that they use to understand the employees is the regression analysis, which has the following advantages to their work.
The regression helps the I/O psychologist work to improve productivity, to come up with effective training programs, performance appraisal program as well as coming up with the best candidates whom the organizations can select. Therefore, through the statistical analysis they carry out, they get the results to provide statistically to the organization on the best people they can recruit in their organization. The output or the results they obtain from their analysis will involve all the factors that can positively influence their employees and be productive in the organization. At the same time, they also consider what is required for the organization to create a conducive environment for the employees.
Regression helps the I/O psychologist to be more effective in their work since it provides numerical results that are real and applicable in their research. Therefore it becomes so easy for the psychologist to predict their result using the known data. Therefore, it becomes easy and less costly to identify the unknown values in the research. Therefore, they will understand the employees’ job attitude and have the prediction of employees’ turnover in the organization. Therefore, regression is effective since it helps the psychologist to predict the organization’s performance and how the effectiveness of the organization.
