Worldview
A worldview can be defined as the set of beliefs about the essential aspects of one’s life. The way people perceive, perform their activities, their way of thinking and attendance to religious matters is a result of their worldview. Understanding, relating, and interpretation of natural events have majored in one’s belief.
I hold a worldview of Christian theism. As a Christian, I believe that God is the creator of all things in the world. From the story of creation in the old testament, God has a purpose for humankind. Man must rely on God to know theirs understand, and undertake the work intended for them.
Secondly, on epistemology, that is the nature of knowledge acquisition and intelligence. I believe that knowledge is not fixed. Different people have varied knowledge levels, and each person is capable of providing a solution to any problem. For example, most people land into their jobs because of the skills they possess not because of social connection with their colleagues.
The most useful expanded definition of worldview from James W. Sire was that worldview is a set of presuppositions (assumptions that may be true, partially correct or entirely false). It denotes that a belief can be real or not genuine. People tend to believe in what co-existed before them, whether it right or not. The different and conflicting believes that people have as a result of pre-existing forces or information instilled in them.
In answering the four worldview questions, any person with a different belief starts by determining whether the worldview is real. At this point, a person takes sides depending on their faith (Christianity, Judaism and Islam). The second question on “who am i?” might be answered when identifies with a particular group—for example, monotheism identity, deism identity, naturalism identity and new consciousness identity. One the question “where did I come from?” people try to define their origin and associate it with their religion. Religious matters play a significant role in establishing one’s origin. Lastly, on the question “what does the future hold?” each person knows that some days to come, we will die, and the universe will not last forever. What the future holds us is dependently on one’s identity. As a Christian, I believe that after death, I will be welcomed in God’s eternity. Deism does not know if the soul survives death, and the new consciousness believes that through changing state of mind, they can Transcend into other dimensions.
What is a presupposition? It is a belief assumed before knowing something about that belief.
