Read the information regarding Zappos in your book. Does the leader impact organizational culture or does organizational culture impact the leader? Explain.
I believe that the leader impacts organizational culture because Tony Hseih, the CEO of Amazon’s Zappos said” Our number one priority is company culture. Our whole belief is that if you get the culture right, most of the other stuff like delivering great customer service or building a long-term enduring brand will just happen naturally on its own” (Bulygo,2020). According to this statement, Zappos has created a culture where employees have freedom of expression. Moreover, Zappos has a unique organizational culture that builds a great working environment and also ensures a high-performance culture. Management and employees of Zappos value growth, change, and learning, and they communicate that adhering to their behavior.
If you were the leader of Zappos, what new elements would you add to the corporate culture? Explain
Zappos is known to have core values such as being adventurous, creative, and open-minded, pursue growth and learning, embrace and drive change and build open and honest relationships with communication (Weiss, 2015). If I were a leader of Zappos, I would continue encouraging those core values especially that of building a positive team because there is no employee will feel less privileged so as to benefit the company.
How do the corporate culture impact vision, mission, and strategy at Zappos?
By using effective communication among workers which is vital for the functioning of the company (Weiss, 2015). Every employee has an obligation of creating a positive working environment. The employers have the responsibility of welcoming and sharing open communication by role modeling effective communication. This assists employers to avoid hiding important information to their employees. In addition, this helps employees to develop interest with work and know what they are expected to do at the workplace. Leaders who use effective communication with their followers to communicate messages whether orally, written, or nonverbally is received. How a message is perceived can be significant as the message itself.
