Don Quixote is introduced as a gentleman who is almost fifty years of age and is not living an interesting kind of lifestyle (Miguel 257). Don enjoys reading chivalric romance books involving the famous knights of old which he believes in. He lives with his niece and a young man who is his housekeeper. The narrator’s tone seems to pity Don as he seems to be a weak person. Don is an adventurous person because he gives his horse a new name and renames himself, De la Mancha, to honor himself and the horse since they were going for knight errands for the first time.

Don reads many books about chivalric romance book that makes him lose his mind and wants to live a life that revolves around it. When he meets a farmer who beats his servant who is a young boy, he intervenes the case and requests the farmer to pay the boy his wages, he believes the farmer when he tells him that he would pay the servant as he believes that promises are meant to be kept according to the books he reads. He further believes that he has a beautiful lady by his side and wants people to compliment her in her absence.

Don is hoping to complete his adventure mission of finding the person who stole his library, while Sancho hopes to be the governor of the island promised to be given to him by Don if he accompanies him. Their goals differ in the sense that Sancho knew very well that they were not able to find the thief since he knew where the books were and still followed him to get a reward of the island. They both have a similar character of living in a world of fantasy (Tsykynovska 271).
