Importance of Knowing English
The current world requires us to not only talk but also talk fluently and make a good package of it, a role played by language. Spoken and written English has become an intricate and solitary tool of business communication, not just within native countries but across different continents. English has remained as the only language of global communication in the current world of internet and technology. Based on two versions of Up, one happening in the UK and another in South Africa, this paper will examine the importance of knowing English in securing opportunities.
Many native Britons can easily guess the ethnic background of a caller from their first hello on the telephone. This makes them jump into racist, snap judgments about callers with a different accent. It negatively affects the lives of such individuals because even employers may block such callers before even evaluating their abilities, credit ratings, achievements, and work ethics based mainly on linguistics. Speaking English allows individuals to broaden their world, thus providing a higher probability of succeeding in your career. English is among the most sought out after skill in an employee at almost every workplace. Presenting yourself well gives you an upper hand over others and improves the chances for a person to go up the ladder. Good command of English in both South Africa and the UK proved to be a critical asset to any organization and guaranteed growth in career. English has established itself as the language of communication globally. This indicates that it doesn’t matter who knows English, one can easily interact with each other from any point in the world and secure better opportunities as much as you have a good command of English.
