FINAL REFLECTION
At the start of the class, I had many expectations. I had several assumptions as at; first, I had an assumption that the course will have a few assignments with more reading. I considered this class would be more of a text and not much of the writing. The other assumption I had was that the course would involve oral assignments that could have assignments that require recording. I also believed there would be final writing exams as other classes. The expectation that I had concerning the reading was that there would be more reading and expected huge literature reading materials that I could encounter in this class. I expected that the writing would be short, and all the writing will use the MLA format has introduced at the beginning of the class. I was also expecting online classes that could involve virtual learning as an all class and the instructor. I also expected the class would involve real-life topics in writing, which could require us to be familiar with the current issues in our country and constitutional amendment. This was achieved as the class had the reading materials and doing online research, which matched my expectation. The other expectation I encountered, which matched my expectation, was the learning of the use of MLA format in writing, and this was achieved during the class.
The class had two major essays that I wrote, which was the one concerning the speech of Obama, the former president of America that was mainly addressing a united nation free from racism. The other essay was the one about the freedom of the press in America. This is a huge topic and very important in protecting the freedom of the press in America. Of these two essays, I enjoyed writing about Obama’s speech towards a “perfect union” as this is a very educational speech that captured the lives of many Americans, mainly the Black Americans. Racism and discrimination have remained an issue of major concern in America. There has been racism and discrimination to Black Americans and mostly to Black Americans, and this is the essay I enjoyed writing as it enabled me to learn more about the problems facing black Americans. The essay is educational as it addresses the importance of having a united country, and racism should be done away with since America is considered a democratic state. The essay is very vital as it encourages the importance of respecting the rights of every individual regardless of gender, religion, and race.
As compared to the First draft, Final draft, Proposal, MLA exercise, the annotated bibliographies is a task that I found difficult. This was difficult has it requires one to find the relevant topic and gives a clear description of the essay and the author. It requires one to read in detail a given topic gather enough evidence so as to come up with a clear description of the researched topic that summarizes the entire work of a selected author on his/her thoughts about the chosen topic or theme.
During the semester, I have done details writing and reading, and the writing habit has developed more than the reading habit. During the semester, I have done a recommendable number of essay writing and other writing exercises that have enhanced improvement in my writing habits. My writing speed has developed more, and also this has enabled me to like writing, which at first, I used to consider as difficult work. My writing skills have developed so much as I amenable to writing long documents, and this will even motivate me to start writing articles that have been my desire. Developing writing skills has given me the motivation to start contributing to editorial work mainly in newspapers and also to write my own short stories that will be read by other people. Writing is a very important skill that is so demanding, and it helps one to develop writing skills and correct their writing errors like spellings; therefore, this is essential skills in academics.
From the course, I have learned several things such as writing skills, citation formats, mainly the MLA format, reading skills that I got from doing research on my essay writing. I have learned how to write a rough draft and the final draft and also the procedure of writing an essay mainly in formulating the essay outline. The new technology I have learned is on the citation. I have learned how to do MLA citation as there are a new format and the use of technology in accessing the school library to learn the use of the new edition of MLA citation. From the course, I am pleased to have developed my writing skills, which I will use to do my other assignments and doing my academic research in various classes. The writing skills will also enable me to do concentrate and involve myself in other writings apart from academic writing.
