 Discrimination in articles

The identity of an author can be evaluated based on the story, article, or book written. The words in the narrative provide a description or insight into the personality of the author. From the article “leaving your name at the border,” it is possible to deduce the identity of the author. The article provides prints that can evaluate the status of the author. The identity of the author comes into relevancy by the following.

The author is quite mysterious and tries to live a secretive life in the sense that he or she does not disclose the town of origin. Born in 1972, the author is of a combination of English and Spanish descent. The original language id=s Spanish since the author experienced translators during the early stages of life. The translators were decoding English and explaining to those in the family who barely understood English.

The author is intrigued by the presence of people speaking the native language. Also, he or she has a sense of belonging since, in the airport, the native name raised his or her attention. The title of the book seems to disclose what the author tries to put across. Changing borders mean assimilation of new culture and way of life. The Spanish dissent appears to be diminishing as he or she crossed the border. The author recalls the early period of life when English was a language used in a peculiar battle. He or she now recognizes the need for the language from an intellectual perspective. Knowing how to speak fluent and eloquent English prompted the necessity for making it public while the Spanish language was for the private part of life. As time passed, there is a realization of how the use of English turned Spanish into a shameful language. The author tried to assimilate an American identity, but the Spanish names stood as barriers. The barriers came into place in the pronunciation of the Spanish names; the names needed a slip into Spanish.

Through a quote from James Baldwin, “An identity would seem to be arrived at by how the person faces and uses his experiences.” It is possible to evaluate the identity of an author. The author of ‘the joy of reading and writing’ expresses his identity through his book. The book traces the origin of the author in India. While the author grew up, he or she found fascination in reading and writing, thus developing a passion for the two activities. It is also possible to deduce that the author had a giving heart. There was a feeling of enabling others to reach the level of reading and writing as the author. Through a giving heart, the urge to serve the Native Americans grew stronger and thus taught his experiences to help them. The author, Alexie, describes his disgust in how society views the Native Americans; they were considered as stupid. He vowed to work on changing the view of the community towards the Native Americans. The teachers never expected the Native Americans to pass in the examinations. The Native Americans had also to feign character so as not to draw attention while in school. The author has the determination to break the doors which the native Americans have locked themselves in. Through the article, he describes his childhood experience with an attempt to make the native Americans understand the need to explore different opportunities and to urge them not to confine themselves in a dark environment.

The article ‘just walk on by,’ describes the identity of the author, Brent Staples. The article describes the personal experiences of Brent staples. Form their own experiences described in the passage; it is possible to evaluate his identity. The following is how his character becomes unveiled. The author expresses the innocence of black people in the streets. Enormous emphasis is on the vice racism has caused upon the blacks. He described his story when he walked in the streets at night. The white lady becomes ob=overwhelmed with fear since a black man was following her. The author also depicts the negative view the society has bestowed upon the blacks. Just because someone is black, then crime comes into the mind. Another experience the author faces was police mistaking a reporter for the killer. Such an experience shows how being black causes one to become vulnerable to the wrong side of the law regardless of the state of the situation. Also, some streets are hard to walk on since blacks are the majority. From these experiences, which the author personally faced, there can be a probable conclusion that the author advocates for equality among the different races. Also, the author expresses his concern on how the black race provides a negative picture. He says, “I began to take precautions to make myself less threatening. I move about with care, particularly late in the evening. I give a wide berth to nervous people on subway platforms during the wee hours, particularly when I have exchanged business clothes for jeans.” To paint a picture of how he is trying to avoid misjudgment.

The author of “Eight simple words” Has an experience that changes his life. The following is a brief description of how the author tries to disclose his identity through the article. The words were “men to the left! Women to the right!” these simple words depict an authoritative scene. Probably the holocaust or captured after a war. The words destroyed the family of Elie since it marked the last moment of having a glimpse of his mother.

To conclude, there needs to have a brief evaluation of these identities of the author. All of the articles illustrate discrimination at various angles — the prejudice of Latinos by their language. Native Americans experience discrimination against their inability to perform well in education. Also, the view of the dangerousness of the blacks depicts a discriminative racial feature. Discrimination also occurs through gender, as described by the narrative’ eight simple words.’ There is a need to avoid such modes of discrimination since the harm they produce overwhelms the good. All the articles narrate an experience where authors get disgusted by the state of discrimination. The society should join with assisting the authors in making sure there is the elimination of the vice. Imagine how painful it is to see your mother for the last time despite the fact of both of you being healthy. The situations that arise should have humanity inside. The authors are also trying to advocate for re-assimilation of human nature that seems to leave the society. All humans need each other and thus should co-exist peacefully, inequality, and with a positive mindset.
