Community Impact
A community is primarily defined as a group of people living nearby and who share numerous similarities that bind them. Communities differ in size, depending on the unifying factor and the number of people that share it in common. In this case, the community that is being referred to is the United States. There are various unifying factors and common aspects that people share. First, there is the government, which is common among the people.
Furthermore, they share the same geographic location, which unifies them. Criminal justice supervision is the set of arrangements put in place to offer correctional services for convicted criminals. The form of criminal justice supervision in this community is by parole and probation. That is whereby offenders or criminals are held in local jails, state penitentiaries, and federal prisons. Statistics show that many people have been held in the facilities, which reflects the occurrence of criminal activity within the community.
As a result of people being in various facilities as part of the criminal justice system’s activities, there have been various impacts on society. Approximately 6,899,000 people are being held at the various facilities, which is a drop by 41,500 from the previous year (Glaze & Kaeble, 2013). That shows a decline in the number of people being held, or involved in various criminal activities. A drop in the number of people in the facilities indicated fewer people are being involved in criminal activities in the society. That shows that the community is more orderly than before, which is an achievement for the criminal justice system. The goal of the criminal justice system is to enhance orderliness in society. When there is order, fewer people are taken into various correctional facilities. Therefore, the intervention of the criminal justice system has had the effect of reducing the number of people held for various violations. That is an achievement by the authorities, as the welfare of people improves with less criminal activity incidences.
