Retaining a Talented Employee

To ensure Jessica doesn’t leave my company I will first enquire from her more about the new job, material facts, the offer as well as the details on the company, the sector she will work and also the colleagues. This helps me to propose a better offer to her than the offer from the new company. Secondly, I will congratulate her for being one of my best employees and also for getting such an offer from another company. Then I will address the issues she raised about her dissatisfaction with my company. Thirdly, I will highlight the benefits she will get if she stays. I will promise her an increment in her salary, bonuses on her overtime and also promotion in her position.

To ensure I retain the talented employees, I will use the dissatisfactions raised by Jessica to improve on the other employees. Secondly, I will implement a positive culture of rewarding the employee’s hard work and recognizing them more frequently. I will also try to be generous with time off by providing sufficient relaxation time to the employees. Thirdly, I will make them feel respected and appreciated by giving them responsibilities that will allow them to grow and gain more skills.

When putting together a retention strategy I will avoid the following traps; too many rules, policies and expectations that can hurt my relationship with the employees. Secondly, I will avoid tolerating poor performance in my company. This is because I may end up losing my best employees who feel the poor performance lack the willpower and skills to do the job therefore increasing their workload. Additionally, I will avoid the trap of failing to motivate the employees to follow their passions. I will ensure to support them and encourage them to pursue their passions.

I will use a structured interview to recruit employees in that position. Using job analysis I will be able to develop professional and structured questions for that position. I will also define the requirements for all applicants. Then I will develop leading and probing questions for the interview. After that, I will choose the grading scale for all applicants. Lastly, I will conduct the interview.

I would expect all the applicants to have the minimum academic requirements such as an associate degree. Also, they should be registered as a nurse or a licensed practical nurse. They should also have the state licensure

I would ask the following questions during the interview “Why did you decide on a career as a nurse? What do you find rewarding about this job? , How you deal with someone who isn’t satisfied with your patient care? Tell me what you feel your greatest skill as a nurse is?, What do you find is the hardest part about being a nurse?, Why are you the best nursing candidate for this position? Tell me about yourself.”

I will incorporate the simulation method in my interview because it helps in ensuring I select the best candidate. This is because simulation will help me to predict which candidate will achieve much on the job. It will also help me to be fair during the whole process.
